Engine
The Hitachi CG22EASSLP is a gas weed eater powered by a 21.1cc engine. We must say the engine works perfectly, has enough power and starts mostly on the first pull (thanks to the S-Start feature), also doesn`t require much force when pulling (see the video at the bottom of this page).
The engine is two-stroke, however the PureFire technology reduces emissions to a minimum – which is great for working (you don`t inhale any fumes) and for the environment as well (it`s CARB compliant).
Power and trimming
We tested this Hitachi weed eater on several types of vegetation and it works great, even on lawns that haven`t been mowed for a very long time. It can run for 90 minutes without a problem and the 60-inch shaft is long enough, well balanced and effective even at tight spaces. We would just advise you to wear an eye protection as some weed chunks can fly into your face.
The trimmer head has a semi-automatic line dispenser and holds 13 feet of .095-inch cutting line. The line is durable and does not break when hitting some harder material.
The only little disadvantage we found is that the on-off switch is not on a perfect location so you can accidentally turn the machine off sometimes – however, not a big problem, you just adjust your holding position slightly.
Weight, vibrations and comfort
One of the main advantages of Hitachi CG22EASSLP is it`s weight – only 9.7 pounds (when fully assembled), the front handle is quite convenient so working with this Hitachi trimmer is easy and comfortable.
The vibrations are a common problem of some gas weed eaters – but thanks to the Anti-Vibration System they are very low here, the trimmer runs smoothly and is not too loud.

Conclusion: If you want a high quality weed eater or if you are simply frustrated of those cheap "throwaway" trimmers, Hitachi CG22EASSLP is the right choice for you. Powerful, lightweight, easy and comfortable to use – we highly recommend it. |
